The Nevada Cannabis Advisory Commission is working toward a November 9 deadline to finalize its recommendations for the 2027 legislative session regarding consumable hemp products. The commission's hemp subcommittee has proposed a statewide age limit of 21 and older for intoxicating hemp-derived products sold outside of the state's regulated marijuana system.

Additional proposals under consideration include mandatory registration for manufacturers and individual products, as well as requirements for in-person ID checks and age verification for online sales and deliveries. These measures aim to bring greater oversight to the currently less-regulated hemp market.

The commission's taxation subcommittee has also explored the potential for an excise tax on retail sales of consumable hemp. However, officials have noted that establishing a clear framework remains challenging due to a lack of comprehensive data and the absence of a universally settled definition for consumable hemp products.

These recommendations are intended to guide state lawmakers as they draft legislation for the upcoming year. The final report will be submitted to state officials following the commission's review, marking a significant step in Nevada's ongoing effort to regulate the hemp industry.
