Evergreen law guide

Maine licenses adult-use cultivation, manufacturing and retail alongside a longstanding medical programme, and permits home cultivation within state limits. Municipalities decide whether to allow retail, so local rules vary widely. Hemp is regulated by the state agriculture department under an approved plan with testing.

The medical and adult-use supply chains are tracked separately, and product may not be moved between them without meeting the receiving track's requirements.

Business impact

Local opt-in determines viability for retail sites. Cultivators should verify which track their product is destined for before packaging, as the requirements differ.

Maine warns medical cannabis patients about contaminated flower and pre-rolls, and says it has no recall power in the medical program

Tests found unsafe levels of bacteria, yeast and mold in products from The B Maine in Lebanon, the Office of Cannabis Policy said Oct. 14. Because state law gives it no recall authority over medical cannabis, the office issued a patient advisory instead of a recall notice.
