Kentucky now has medical cannabis dispensaries open in all 11 of its dispensary licensing regions, Gov. Andy Beshear's office announced on Oct. 16, 2026, according to WKYT and Marijuana Moment.

According to WKYT, the announcement followed the opening of Sunnyside Dispensary in Floyd County, which opened its doors on Oct. 12 and is the first dispensary in the Mountain Region.

"With this week's opening of Sunnyside Dispensary, we now have dispensaries open in all 11 licensing regions throughout the commonwealth," Beshear said, according to both outlets. "Every step of this process has put patients first, and I'm proud of the progress we've made."

According to Marijuana Moment, the governor's office said 26 medical cannabis dispensaries are open and serving patients, and 46 medical cannabis businesses are operating across the legal supply chain. More than 28,000 patients have been approved for the program, and more than 500 registered medical practitioners can recommend cannabis, Marijuana Moment reported.

Beshear signed Kentucky's medical cannabis legalization law in 2023, and it took effect at the start of last year, according to Marijuana Moment, which also reported that the state's first dispensary opened in December of last year. Marijuana Moment reported that Beshear signed an executive order in June expanding the list of qualifying conditions, and that House Majority Whip Jason Nemes called that order unlawful.
