On October 22, 2026, federal prosecutors filed an eight-count indictment against Virginia State Senator L. Louise Lucas and six family members and associates. The charges follow a May 6, 2026, raid by the FBI on two retail outlets, The Cannabis Outlet and The CBD Shoppe, where authorities reportedly discovered firearms and illegal marijuana.

According to the Department of Justice, the defendants allegedly operated these businesses as fronts for the illegal sale of recreational marijuana while posing as legitimate hemp and CBD retailers. The indictment claims the enterprise generated approximately $5 million in revenue.

Senator Lucas and the other defendants are currently facing these federal allegations. Representatives for the Senator have stated that the defendants deserve the opportunity to present their defense in court.
